5 with breathing problems die in last 2 days

At least five persons, including a freedom fighter died of Covid-19-like symptoms in four districts over the last two days.

The 74-year-old freedom fighter died while undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of Manikganj District Hospital in the early hours yesterday.

He was admitted to hospital on Tuesday afternoon with fever and breathing problems. Doctors were treating him, but his physical condition kept deteriorating.

He died at around 4:30am yesterday. His sample has been collected for coronavirus test, said Dr Arshad Ullah, superintendent of the hospital.

Ghior Upazila Nirbahi Officer Irene Akhter said, "His burial will be completed with state honours at 5:00pm. Due to the symptoms, his janaza and burial will be in accordance with hygiene guidelines."

In Shariatpur, a 60-year-old man with coronavirus-like symptoms died at his residence at Mirashar village under Jajira upazila yesterday.

The man came to the hospital with fever, cough, cold and breathing problems on Tuesday. Then, he was provided with treatment. His sample was also collected for Coronavirus test, said Dr Mahmudul Hasan, Jajira upazila health and family planning officer.

The body was buried by the Islamic Foundation as per the guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO), the official added.

In Patuakhi, a 61-year-old man suffering from fever and respiratory disease died with coronavirus symptoms at his residence at Thanapara area in the district headquarters yesterday morning.

He suddenly lost consciousness at his residence yesterday morning. He was taken to Patuakhali General Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

His sample has been collected for coronavirus test. He was a retired government employee, said Dr Jahangir Alam, civil surgeon of the district.

In Pabna, two persons died with respiratory problems in two upazilas since Tuesday night.

A 65-year-old man, who hailed from Moszidpara area of Sujangar upazila, was admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital on June 1. He was undergoing treatment at the isolation unit, but died around 7:30 pm on Tuesday night.

His sample has been collected for coronavirus test, said Abul Hossain, assistant director of the hospital.

A 62-year-old man, who hailed from Atlonka village under Chatmoharupazila, died with similar symptoms yesterday.

He had been suffering from respiratory problems for the last few days. His physical condition kept deteriorating. His family members were taking him to hospital yesterday morning, but he died on the way, said Md. Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chatmohar police station.

The victim was buried in the village graveyard under the supervision of the local administration the OC added.
