13 die at RMCH Covid-19 unit in 24 hours

Thirteen people died at the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in 24 hours till this morning.

Of the deceased, six were Covid-19 positive, six died with symptoms while another was Covid-19 negative, RMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani confirmed to The Daily Star.

Of them, six are above 60 years old, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent quoting the RMCH director. 

Sixty-two patients were admitted to the Covid1-19 unit of the hospital during the period. Of them, 45 are from Rajshahi, nine from Chapainawabganj, three from Natore, three from Naogaon and one each from Pabna and Joypurhat.

With them, in total 402 are undergoing treatment at the unit at present.   

During 24 hours, 188 samples were tested at RMCH lab through RT-PCR and 70 of them came positive while 368 were tested at Rajshahi Medical College lab and 175 of them were Covid-19 positive.

The current positivity rate in Rajshahi is 43.19 percent.

KHULNA

Meanwhile, in Khulna, five died of Covid-19 and with symptoms at Khulna Medical College Hospital in 24 hours, till 8:00am today, said Dr Suhash Ranjan Haldar, a resident medical officer of the hospital and spokesperson of the unit.

Among them, four were Covid-19 positive while another was admitted with symptoms, he said. 

A total of 111 people tested positive for coronavirus during the period, the doctor added.

Thirty-two new patients were admitted to the unit in the last 24 hours, Dr Suhash said adding that in total 161 patients are undergoing treatment at the unit now.
