Cops fall asleep, firearm goes missing

A firearm of police went missing from a polling centre in Shalikha upazila of Magura early today.

Three constables were suspended for negligence of duty after the incident came to light this morning, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

Sudarshan Kumar Roy, Magura assistant superintendent of police, told The Daily Star that three policemen deployed at Gobra Panchabati High School polling centre in the upazila fell asleep around 12:30am.

Some people this time took away a sub-machine gun (SMG).

Meanwhile, voting in the polling centre is being continued peacefully, said AKM Tareque, returning officer of Magura.

“Police is trying to recover the firearm,” said Zihadul Kabir, superintendent of police in Magura.
