Cops can now arrest Tangail MP, says AG

The Supreme Court today extended its order that stayed a High Court directive asking law enforcers not to arrest or harass Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, the lawmaker of Tangail-3 constituency, and three others in a case filed for killing Awami League leader Farukh Ahmed.
The three others accuse are: Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, a lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency, Jahidur Rahman Khan Khokon, Samiad Khan Bappa, and Sanoar Hossain.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice passed the order following an appeal moved by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.
There is no legal bar for the law enforcers to arrest the four following the SC order, the attorney general told The Daily Star.
The local AL leader of Tangail Farukh Ahmed was killed on January 18 last year.
 On September 17 this year, the HC directed police not to arrest or harass the four in this case without due process of law.
After few days, the chamber judge of the Supreme Court stayed the HC order in response to a government petition seeking a stay on the HC order.
Today, the Appellate Division extended the chamber judge’s order till a further order.
