Cop firing kills 2 BNP men in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj

Two BNP men were killed in police firing during separate clashes in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj today.

In Rajshahi, a local BNP leader was killed in police firing during a clash involving the opposition and ruling party activists as well as law enforcers in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi this afternoon.

In protest, the party called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district for tomorrow.

At least 20 other people including eight policemen were injured in the clash that continued for around two hours from 3:00pm at Baneshwar Bazar, reports our Rajshahi correspondent.

The deceased was identified as Majir Uddin, 45, vice-president of a ward at Charghat Union.

The clash ensued as police barred them from holding a rally there as part of the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s countrywide programme to observe “democracy killing day”.
