Cop among 2 hurt in 'gunfight' with criminals

Two people including a policeman were injured in a 'gunfight' between the law enforcers and a gang of criminals in Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
Mayen Uddin, a constable of Sadar Police Station, is among the injured.
Police, however, arrested two criminals along with 17 bullets and three crude bombs from the spot.
Wednesday morning, a gang abducted three construction labourers-- Shakil, Sujan and Jamal at gunpoint from Uttar Maguri area and demanded ransom from the victim's family members for their release.
Being informed, police conducted a drive around 9:00pm. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire on them, prompting the police to fire back.
Jamal Uddin, sub-inspector of Duttapara Investigation Centre, said later police rescued the abducted labourers from a garden and arrested Shohag and Ismail from the spot.
