Comilla presiding officer hurt in criminals’ attack

A presiding officer was injured as miscreants attacked him citing vote rigging at a polling centre in Barura upazila of Comilla this morning.  

Voting was suspended at the centre following the incident, report a correspondent from Comilla.  

Some unidentified miscreants went to at Kolagram Government Primary School centre around 9:00am and picked up a quarrel with Presiding Officer Moinuddin Mahmud Shahjahan Bhuiyan bringing vote rigging allegation.    

At one stage, they hit the presiding officer with a stick, leaving him injured.

Bhuiyan was undergoing treatment at Barura Upazila Health Complex.

Meanwhile, at least six activists of Awami League, BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami were injured including one by bullet during election violence in Chittagong and Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka.

In Chittagong, a Jamaat man whose name could not be known immediately was hit by a bullet during a gunfight between AL and Jamaat men at Chhoto Hatiya Laxmibibi Adarsha Ebtadiya Madrasa in Satkania upazila.

The gunfight took place when both AL and Jamaat supporters were trying to take control over the centre, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting Belal Md Chowdhury, presiding officer of the polling centre, confirmed the incident.

At least five people suffered minor injuries as police charged batons on AL and BNP activists after a chase and counter-chase took place between them at Amrail Government Primary School in Dhamrai.

The chase and counter chase occurred when AL men were trying to rig votes and were resisted by BNP activists, reports our Savar correspondent.

Police detained 10 supporters from both the parties after the incident.

The injured received primary treatment from the local health complex.
