CMP constable dies with Covid-19 like symptoms

A constable of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) died at Chattogram General Hospital with Covid-19 like symptoms today.

MD Nekbar Hossain (47), of Halishahar Police Station, died at the hospital this morning; however, he tested negative for coronavirus, said CMP officials.

Amena Begum, additional police commissioner of CMP, told The Daily Star that Nekbar was admitted at Dampara Divisional Police Hospital with Covid-19 like symptoms few days ago and was undergoing treatment there.

As he faced breathing difficulties from Thursday evening, he was shifted to Chattogram General Hospital for ICU support, she added.

The police official said earlier he tested Covid-19 negative but after his death sample was collected for further test.

He will be buried following proper guidelines, she added.

According to CMP headquarters, 86 police personnel have tested positive so far. Of them, Naimul Haque, a traffic constable of Port Division, and Moskhlesur Rahman, a constable of Chattogram District Police, have died.
