Classical music enthralls audience in Mymensingh

The mesmerising sound of flute rendered by ustad Shahabuddin Khan, a prominent flute maestro in Mymensingh region, made a capacity audience spell bound on Friday evening.
Performance of rarely recited raga Antardhani, Pahari Jhinjhoti and the melodies of Bhairavi satisfied the audience to their heart's content.
Bangladesh Nazrul Sena, Mymensingh unit organised the evening at its auditorium in the town. Folklore Cell Mymensingh assisted the programme.
Classical vocalist ustad Bijon Topder's performance on raga Puria Dhaneshree and a thumri on Raga Pilu gave a superb taste of traditional classical music of this sub-continent.
Nazib Ashraf and Chayan Sen rendered songs of the yesteryears, adding to the flavours of the programme.
The artistes were assisted by Saiduzzaman Sumon on flute, Kamol Sarker and Probir Dey on tabla, Ripon Chandra Saha and Gautam Dey on violin, Chayan Sen on key-board while Prince Babu on octo-pad.
Earlier, a discussion meeting was held. Principal of Nazrul Sena School GEM Faruq spoke at the meeting, among others.
They urged the government to establish a folklore academy in Mymensingh to revive the almost-extinct cultural heritage of this region, once famous for variations of traditional culture.
A video on late sitar ustad Badrul Huda and folklore researcher and performer late ustad Abdur Rashid was also screened at the programme.
Rashed Mohammad Faruq and Sanjida Sharmin anchored the programme.
