Clashes over land disputes leave 2 dead, 100 hurt

At least two people were killed and 100 others injured in clashes over land disputes in Lalmonirhat and Sunamganj districts in the last three days.
In Lalmonirhat, clash over land dispute killed a man and injured another 10 at Shaikhsundor village in Hatibandha upazila yesterday.
The deceased is Alam Hossain, 45, son of Abdul Mazid Miah of the village, reports our correspondent.
Police said there was a longstanding dispute between one Hashem Talukder and his cousin Mahbar Talukder of the village over a land.
As a sequel to the conflict, the supporters of the rivals attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving at least 11 people from both sides injured on Wednesday night.
They were admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital where critically injured Alam Hossain died yesterday morning.
Police arrested nine people in connection with the incident, said Shah Shahan, officer in-charge (investigation) of Hatibandha Police Station.
Deceased's father filed a murder case, said the OC.
Away in Sunamganj, a man was killed and four others were injured in a clash over land dispute in Chhatak upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Kamal Miah, 35, of Kuchbari village in the upazila, reports our staff correspondent from Sylhet.
Police and locals said there had been a long-standing dispute between Kamal Mia of Kuchbari village and Zubed Ali of Mollapara over a land at Mollapara Bazar.
Following an altercation over the issue at Mollapara Bazar, the supporters of the two locked in a clash at the bazaar at around 8:30pm, leaving Kamal Miah and four others injured.
Kamal Miah succumbed to his injuries on way to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital at around 10:00pm.
The four other injured-- Kawsar, 30, Phul Mia, 26, Masum, 27, and Abul Khayer, 50--were admitted to Chhatak Upazila Health Complex.
Police arrested four people for their alleged involvement in the clash, said OC Shahjalal Munshi of Chhatak Police Station.
Meanwhile, over 90 people, including two policemen, were injured in a clash between two rival groups over land dispute at Rawli village in Chatak upazila of the district on Wednesday night, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
 The injured were admitted to different local clinics, upazila health complex, Sunamganj Sadar Hospital and Sylhet Osmani Medical College.
 The clash took place when the men of former UP Chairman Abdul Khaleque attacked the supporters of former UP member Akkel Miah who tried to control the disputed land.
Two policemen, including SI Abdur Rashid, were also injured during the incident, said Md Sahajalal Munshi, officer in-charge of Chatak PS.
