A youth aged around 30 years died reportedly from electrocution at the rooftop of the Old Dhaka central jail on Nazumuddin Road this afternoon.

“The victim came in contact with a live electric wire on the rooftop of a three-storey building of the jailhouse while he was talking with someone through his mobile phone around 2:20pm,” Aminul Islam, a police constable of the abandoned jail, told The Daily Star.

Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctor declared him dead, Sub-Inspector Bachu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH said.

Further detail of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The incident took place when hearing of Zia Charitable Trust case against Khaleda was continuing at a makeshift court in the jailhouse, he said.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia landed in the jail on February after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in a graft case.
