Yaba factory busted in N'ganj

The Department of Narcotics Control yesterday claimed to have busted a small Yaba factory in Narayanganj.

A joint team of the department and police found the factory in a room of a tin-shed house in Bandar area on Thursday. DNC Director General Jamal Uddin Ahmed said Habibur Rahman, 42, owner of the house fled.

The team arrested his wife, Lucky Akhter, 32, on the spot.

Around 200 tablets, Yaba making materials, two CCTV cameras set up on a tree near the house and two monitors were seized, says a DNC press release.

The DG said they might have smuggled banned pseudoephedrine to manufacture Yaba tablets.

However, Habibur's father Karim Matubbar denied the couple's involvement in Yaba producing, reports our Narayanganj correspondent. Habibur went to Chittagong five or six days ago, said Karim, adding that some locals might have “framed them over land dispute.”

Earlier, on December 26, detectives busted a Yaba factory in Chittagong and seized 2.5 lakh pills, raw materials, two Yaba-making machines and four moulds.

In Dhaka, 19 alleged drug peddlers were held with 1,965 Yaba pills, a pistol, three mobile phones, five bottles of phensedyl, seven bottles of foreign liquor, five beer cans and 2.6kg of cannabis in different areas yesterday. Besides, 19 drug addicts were detained.

Also, a diagnostic centre staffer was arrested with six bottles of phensedyl and 200 grams of cannabis at the centre in Dhanmondi last night. A three-day special drive of DNC is going on as per the prime minister's directive.
