Writer, researcher Father Silvano passes away

Writer and researcher Father Silvano Garello, 79, died on Wednesday due to old age complications.

Father Silvano was born in Valdagono city in Italy on December 31 in 1938. He came to Bangladesh in 1970, and had published books in Bangla.

Expressing his deep condolence, Dhaka University Vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique said Bangladesh has lost a friend of Bangla language.

His contribution in history and heritage research will be remembered, the VC said in his condolence message yesterday.

Father Silvano was an active organiser, researcher and translator of Committee for Documentation on Architectural Sites in Dhaka, the message added.

He will be buried in Khulna.
