Woman's body found hanging in Rangpur

Police recovered the body of a housewife hanging from the ceiling of her house in Mahiganj Kasaituli area of Rangpur city yesterday.

The deceased is Roksana Akter Ayrin, 21, wife of Sharif Mia. 

ABM Zahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rangpur Sadar Police Station, said Ayrin's body bore some injury marks, indicating that her husband might have beaten her to death before hanging her from the ceiling.

Ayrin's family said they paid Tk 1 lakh as dowry demanded by Sharif at the time of marriage three year ago. Sharif had recently demanded  Tk 50,000, which Ayrin rejected, said the family, alleging that Sharif used to torture her for the money.  Shahida Begum, Ayrin's mother, alleged her daughter was murdered for the dowry.

Sharif fled after the incident A murder case was filed.
