Woman 'killed' in Rangpur

A woman was allegedly beaten to death in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur yesterday.

The deceased was Saleha Begum, 50, wife of Monzur Ali, 58, of Moubhasha Char village of the upazila.

According to police, Nur Alam, a neighbour, got locked into an altercation with Saleha's son Saju Mia on Friday over using a toilet.

At one point, Nur Alam and his family swooped on Saju. When Saleha went to save her son, she got injured in the scuffle and later died in a hospital, police said.

Following a murder case against eight people, police arrested Afroza Begum, 35, wife of Nur Alam, and her brother Rashidul Islam, 40, said Gangachara police.
