Woman comes under acid attack in Dhaka zoo

An unidentified miscreant hurled acid at a woman in Mirpur zoo of Dhaka yesterday.

With burns to the left eye, face, throat, and arms, the woman was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital's burn unit, said Dr Shakhawat.

Her husband Sujon Mia told reporters at the hospital that he along with her was visiting the zoo when a stranger thought to be a hijra wearing a sari threw acid and fled while he was in a nearby washroom.

On arrival, he chased the attacker in vain, he said.

Sujon said they came to Dhaka from Pabna residence to visit his brother.

Shah Ali police said they were investigating the incident.
