Woman comes under acid attack in Dhaka

A woman suffered burn injuries as an unidentified criminal threw acid on her in Jurain area of Dhaka last night.

Zahura Begum, 26, wife of Ripon Khan of Jurain Bou Bazar, has been undergoing treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), victim’s husband Ripon told The Daily Star this evening.

As Zahura entered a toilet adjacent to their tin-shed house around 9:00pm, the unidentified criminal hurled acid on her through the broken ventilator of the toilet, said Ripon.

They have been living in the area for four to five years and have no enmity with anyone, Ripon claimed.

Contacted, Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police Station, told The Daily Star that they are looking into the matter.
