Woman burnt in Dhaka acid attack

A former expatriate today threw acid on his wife’s face in broad daylight in Tejgaon area of Dhaka.

Abdul Kuddus, an expatriate who returned from Malaysia seven months back, threw acid on his wife Aklima Akter, 32, in East Nakhalpara around 1:00pm, said Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station.

The victim was admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, said victim’s brother Ramjan Mia.

After incurring losses in Malaysia, Kuddus returned to Bangladesh and took a loan of Tk 4 lakh from Ramjan to start a business. However, he spent the money in gambling and taking drugs, family sources said.

Whenever Kuddus was asked to repay the loan, he tortured his wife, Ramjan alleged.

Kuddus went into hiding soon after the incident, the police official said.
