Why no bail for Apan Jewellers owners, HC asks

The High Court today issued five separate rules asking the government to explain in two weeks why three owners of Apan Jewellers -- Dilzar Ahmed, Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed -- should not be granted bail in five money laundering cases.

The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim came up with the rules after hearing five separate petitions recently filed by Dilzar, Gulzar and Azad seeking bail in the cases.

The Directorate of Tariff Intelligence Investigation filed the cases with Gulshan, Dhanmondi, Uttara and Ramna police stations on August 12 on charge of laundering money.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on August 12 sued three owners of Apan Jewellers on the charge of money laundering in importing around 15 maunds of gold.
