Waterway workers continue strike

The strike on waterways continued yesterday for the fourth consecutive day as the government's efforts to end the crisis through discussions with vessel owners and workers failed.

Water transport workers abstained from work on Tuesday demanding, among others, Tk 10,000 as the minimum monthly wage, which the owners are denying citing that they will not be able to operate vessels after meeting the demand.

Bulbul Ahmed, convener of Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Oikya Sangram Parishad, told The Daily Star that their work stoppage will continue until their demands are fulfilled.
