Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon today blamed Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) and bad drainage system for waterlogging in different parts of the capital.

Khokon came up with the remarks while inspecting the waterlogging situation at Dhanmondi 27 in the city this afternoon.

“Although it’s Wasa’s responsibility, we don’t find people from Wasa on the field,” he said, adding that city corporation officials were working to fix the situation.

He said, “The drainage system fails to accommodate the load of even 100-150 millimetre rain at a stretch. We could have been spared from this problem if prior planning was done in this regard.”

Torrential rainfall of monsoon continued for the fourth consecutive day today and battered the city dwellers, throwing life out of gear.

The downpour inundated several key areas of the city, including Dhanmondi, Dhaka University, Azimpur, Farmgate, Green Road, Mirpur, Mouchak, Malibagh, Motijheel and Gulistan.

It also flooded the Secretariat at Abdul Gani Road and front of the parliament on Manik Mia Avenue which remain so till filing of the report at 3:30 in the afternoon.
