Private university students protesting VAT on “tuition fees” called off their demonstrations in Dhaka for today.

The students started withdrawing road blockades at different parts of the capital around 5:00pm, saying the demonstrations will resume tomorrow.

Ibrahim Khan, assistant deputy police commissioner of Ramna Division, told The Daily Star that the blockade at Dhanmondi 27 was withdrawn around 5:30pm.

Meanwhile, a student of East West University, seeking anonymity, told The Daily Star that the blockade was withdrawn for today considering people’s sufferings.

However, the demonstrations will continue till their demand is met, he added.

A Facebook post of the page ‘East West University Campus’ at 05:15pm said the road blockade was withdrawn with an ultimatum to the government to fulfil their demand by tonight.

The demonstration will resume tomorrow if their demand is not met, the post added.
