A youth was held for vandalising a Hindu idol at a temple in Mirpur area of Dhaka this morning.

Detainee Rashidul Hasan, 26, vandalised an idol of goddess Kali at Mirpur Central Mandir around 7:15am, said Otindra Sarker, an assistant priest of the temple.

The youth entered the temple taking permission from the priest, he said.

But after a while, the priest heard a loud noise and rushed inside the temple only to discover the fallen and broken idol, Otindra Sarker added.

Then, he with the help of the security guards managed to capture the youth and handed him over to the police.

Police were conducting investigation into it, Shahidul Islam, sub-inspector from Mirpur Police Station, told The Daily Star.
