Vacant quota posts to be filled from merit list: Govt

Government job positions that have remained vacant for the lack of eligible candidates will be filled from merit lists, according a notification issued by government yesterday.

The decision relaxing the previous system of preserving the vacant posts came amid countrywide protests by job seekers demanding reform of the quota system in public service.

In all the recruitment processes when a post under quota falls vacant, it will be filled from the merit lists, the notification added.

As per previous rules, if eligible candidates are not found for filling the posts under quota, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission keeps the posts vacant.

This method has been resulting in a number of positions lying vacant for years.
