University in Beijing to open Bangla dept

Beijing Foreign Studies University in China is going to introduce a Bangla department next year.

A two-member Chinese delegation led by Prof Ma Lin, deputy director of the university, yesterday informed Dhaka University's Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique about it during a meeting at the latter's office, said a press release.

The VC assured the team of all possible cooperation in this regard. They also agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding soon.

Matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes were discussed at the meeting  where the other delegate, Yang Wei Ming, coordinator of Bangla Service of the Chinese International Radio, and DU Pro-VC (administration) Prof Shahid Akhtar Hossain were also present.

Prof Arefin hoped that this initiative will strengthen the friendly ties between Bangladesh and China.
