United Hospital fined Tk 20 lakh

A mobile court yesterday fined United Hospital, a private hospital in the capital's Gulshan, Tk 20 lakh for using expired reagents in medical tests, and surgical items without any expiry date.

The hospital authorities were given a 15-day timeframe to rectify the anomalies.

The expired reagents were preserved in domestic freezers instead of pharmaceutical freezers violating medical norms, said Sarwoer Alam, executive magistrate of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-2.

The court also found imported medicines which did not have their country of origin mentioned.

When contacted, Shagufa Anwar, chief of communication and business development of the hospital, said, “We will follow the directives.”
