Repatriating Rohingya

Unite to mobilise global opinion: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday called for national unity to mobilize international opinion in support of the repatriation of Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh to their homeland in Myanmar.

“Sending the Rohingyas back to Myanmar will be immensely challenging if we fail to forge national unity. We need to build global opinion to send them [Rohingya refugees] back home. National unity is a must for building such opinion,” he said while speaking with journalists at a programme at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters.

“I appealed to the world community to save these people [Rohingya refugees]. The world should come forward and compel Myanmar to stop the mass killing and take measures to take the Rohingyas back to Myanmar.”

When asked whether his party communicated with other political parties with the plea for unity, the BNP leader said, “We are tired of doing such things. Our government doesn't believe in unity.”
