Unhealthy competition of drivers' causes traffic jam: CCC mayor

Unhealthy competition among the drivers is one of the mentionable reasons behind traffic congestion, which is getting worse with days in Chittagong city, said Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin yesterday.

At a meeting at Chittagong city's Nagar Bhaban, the mayor also said drivers park their vehicles crosswise and take passengers. They even take passengers blocking the mouth of lanes which results in tailbacks. 

 “We have decided to construct some passenger-sheds and bus-bays in the city as soon as possible”, he added.

Other participants, including Additional Commissioner (traffic) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Debdas Bhattacharia and Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal, suggested creating zebra-crossing and foot over bridges.
