Two tortoises rescued at Barisal

Government officials concerned in BNarisal city yesterday rescued two tortoises from being poached in Barisal city.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Bangladesh Coast Guard, Barisal zone, challenged a trawler in the Kirtonkhola river at Dapdapia point in Barisal Sadar upazila when the poachers managed to flee leaving a tortoise weighing 50kg in the vessel.

Forest officials released the tortoise in the Kalizira river, said Coast Guard officials.

Meanwhile, forest officials rescued another tortoise, weighing 40kg, which poachers abandoned in DC Ghat sensing presence of the officials. It was released in the Kirtonkhola river.
