Two held for killing 5-yr old

Rapid Action Battalion arrested two people allegedly for abducting and killing a five-year-old in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj on Monday.

The arrestees are Mohammad Ratan, 26, and Jahangir Hossain, 29.

Akib Hossain went missing while playing at a field near his home at Ekrampur Monday afternoon, said his father Jamal Hossain. In the evening, someone called Jamal over the phone asking Tk 20,000 as ransom and threatened to kill Akib otherwise, Jamal added. Suspecting that the caller was neighbour Ratan, he informed locals who caught Ratan on Tuesday and handed him over to Rab. Later, the elite force detained Jahangir from Muslimnagar under Fatullah Police Station on the day and handed them over to police.

Police said the duo confessed that after abducting Akib they strangled him as his father refused to pay the ransom. Later, they dumped his body in the Shitolokkha River near Barafkal Kheyaghat area. Police are yet to recover the body.
