RANGPUR RAPE CASE

Two get life imprisonment

A Rangpur court yesterday sentenced two persons to life imprisonment in connection with a case filed over the rape of a college girl in 2010.

The court also fined them Tk 25,000 each, in default of which they will have to serve additional six months in jail.

The convicted are Tazkir Hossain, 32, and Dulali Akter, 28, both from Mithapukur upazila of the district. The duo, along with the victim was students of Rangpur Carmichael College.

Judge Md Zabid Hossain of Women and Children Repression Prevention Court-1 handed down the verdict in a packed courtroom in presence of both the accused.

According to the prosecution, Tazkir, a then master’s final year student, offered a love affair to the victim, a third year honours student of Bangla department.

She rejected the offer and later, Tazkir made a plan with Dulali Akter, a friend of the victim, to avenge the denial, said Rafiq Hasnain, the public prosecutor (PP).

As per their plans, Dulali invited the victim at her rented mess in Khamarpara area of Rangpur city on December 21 2010.

Tazkir was waiting inside a room alone wearing a burkha.

As the victim arrived, Dulali locked her in the room with Tazkir, who raped her and filmed the incident, the PP added.

He also threatened to publish the video clip and images on internet if she disclosed the incident.

Fearing social harassment, the victim remained silent in this regard.

Two days later on December 23, 2010 the victim filed a case with Rangpur Sadar Police Station accusing 4 persons including Tazkir and Dulali, the PP also added.
