Two butchers held for selling meat of dead bull

Police arrested two butchers on the charge of slaughtering a dead bull and selling its meat at a shop in Savar Bazar Bus Stand area outside the capital yesterday.

The arrestees -- Abul Kalam and Omar Faruk -- work at the meat shop, Gosto Bitan, owned by Razu Mia, said police.

Razu has been on the run since the incident, they said.

A man witnessed that the three people were slaughtering the dead animal near the shop an hour before the arrest, Nazmul Hasan, sub-inspector of Savar Police Station, quoted the person as saying.

Locals later informed police of the incident, he said. During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to the offences, said the SI. The meat of the dead bull was seized, said Officer-in-Charge Mohshinul Kadir.
