Two BCL CU activists beat master’s student

A student of Chittagong University was beaten allegedly by two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists on the campus yesterday afternoon.

Injured Kinshuk Partha Banik, a master’s student of mass communication and journalism, and former CU correspondent of the daily Kaler Kantho, took primary treatment at CU Medical Centre.

BCL activists -- Al Amin, a second-year sociology student, and Imran, a second-year public administration student -- were locked in an altercation with Kinshuk at AF Rahman Hall’s canteen, said Fahim Hasan, one of the victim's friends.

At one point, the duo punched Kinshuk but he managed to flee the spot and took shelter in a nearby private hostel. But when he was returning to the hall half-an-hour later, the activists beat him with iron rods.

Kinshuk lodged a complaint with CU Proctor Office.

The duo could not be contacted over the phone despite several attempts.

Vice President of BCL CU dissolved committee Rezaul Haque Rubel said the entire BCL should not be made responsible for individuals’ offence.

CU Assistant Proctor Liton Mitra said, “Action would be taken against the duo if found guilty”.
