Truck runs over traffic cop in Jatrabari

A speeding truck ran over a traffic policeman when he was crossing a road in Dhaka’s Jatrabari in the early hours of today. The cop later died in a hospital.

The victim was identified as Delwar Hossain, 40, from Tangail’s Nagarpur and a policeman of East division Demra zone. He used to live in Rajarbagh police line.

He was run over while crossing a road in Kabla area of Kutubkhali around 5:30am, said Rafiqul Islam, a Nayek at the police camp of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

“He later succumbed to injuries around 6:45am. The body is being kept at Dhaka Medical College morgue,” the policeman added.

Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station, endorsed the facts and added that the truck could not be detained. “We are searching for the truck and its driver.”
