Truck, car crashes kill 5

Three riders of a motorbike were were killed as a truck hit it from behind near Ispahani rail gate in Chittagong city early yesterday.

The deceased are Kamrul Islam, 27, of Feni, Md Nizam, 32, of the city's Agrabad area, and Md Rezaul, 30, of Bagerhat, said police.

The accident occurred around 3:30am, said Alamgir Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah Police Station. Nizam and Rezaul were killed on the spot while Kamrul, who was driving the motorcycle, succumbed to his injuries in hospital around 5:00am, he said.

Police seized the truck and arrested its driver and helper.

In Comilla city, a woman and her niece were killed after being run over by a private car.

The deceased are Khadiza Begum, 26, and her niece Jannat, 5, of Chandina upazila. They lived in a rented house in the city.

The car driver was arrested after the accident occurred around 11:00am.
