Tk 50 lakh of Pubali Bank missing mysteriously in Ctg

A total of Tk 50.50 lakh of Pubali bank in Chittagong went missing while some employees were carrying the money from the district's Sitakunda upazila to the city by a micro bus yesterday afternoon.

 According to the bank's sources, a five-member team comprising Junior officer (cash) Razibur Rahman, armed guards Tanzu Rahman, Mazharul Islam and Ashikur Rahman, and micro-bus driver Bijoy Kumar Das of Pubali Bank's CDA corporate branch went to the Sheikh Mujib branch in the city, from which they withdrew Tk 50.50 lakh. Then they went to the Sitakunda upazila Branch to withdraw Tk 81 lakh.

Quoting the five, police said Razibur and Ashikur went into the two-storey building in the upazila around 1:00pm while the other three were guarding the money kept inside the micro-bus. Meanwhile, Mazharul and driver Bijoy went to a nearby toilet, leaving Tanzu alone in the vehicle.

When they were heading for the city's corporate branch after finishing their work, someone from behind told them that the vehicle's backdoor was open. They got down from the vehicle and, found the bundles of Tk 50.50 lakh missing; the five claimed.

Being informed immediately by them, Abdus Sabur Miah, manager of Sitakunda branch, informed the police about the incident.

"Anyone or the whole team might be involved in stealing the money", Sub-inspector of Sitakunda Police Station Dulal Hossain suspected and said they would be interrogated.

Senior Principal Officer of Pubali Bank CDA Branch Abul Kashem confirmed the incident.
