Mother Language Day

Tight security around Shaheed Minar

A multi tier elaborate security system has been drawn up by law enforcers in and around the Central Shaheed Minar ahead of the observance of International Mother Language Day tomorrow.

“Although there are no specific security threats, measures have been taken to ensure peaceful observance of International Mother Language Day,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said.

He was talking to reporters at Central Shaheed Minar premises of the capital yesterday.

The DMP boss also said the entire Dhaka University area would be under CCTV surveillance and check posts will be installed at every entry point into the campus.

Visitors will have to cross multiple archways and checkpoints to enter the Shaheed Minar area, he said.

“Only the VVIP visitors including the president, prime minister, cabinet members and foreign diplomats will access Shaheed Minar through Doyel Chattar,” he said, adding, general people will enter through the Palashi intersection.

Due to security measures, the palashi entry point will be opened at 12:30pm tomorrow for the visitors to pay homage to the language heroes, the DMP boss added.

All vehicles will be restricted on Science Laboratory to Nilkhet, Fulbaria crossing to Chankharpool, and Kataban to Nilkhet routes from 5:00am tomorrow ahead of Probhat Feri (morning rally), according to DMP instruction.
