Three lakh litigants' access to justice ensured: Anisul

The government has provided legal aid to 3,00,598 underprivileged persons including women and children since 2009 to March this year, Law Minister Anisul Huq said.

The services were provided through National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), National Legal Aid Service Helpline -- 6430, Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee (SCLAC) and legal aid cells under the labour courts.

The law minister was speaking at a press conference organised by the law ministry at its conference room at the secretariat in the capital yesterday, ahead of National Legal Aid Service Day.

The day will be observed tomorrow across the country to make people aware of government move to ensure justice for all. 

Marking the day, the law ministry organised an event at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital, the law minister said, adding various other programmes will be held across the country.

Anisul Huq said since 2009 the NLASO arranged various legal aid services for some 2,01,125 persons including 529 children.

Meanwhile, the SCLAC, which came into being in September 2015, has provided legal assistance to 3,019 disadvantaged persons so far, the minister said. Legal aid cells have been set up under the labour courts in Dhaka and Chittagong to ensure justice for the underprivileged workers, he added.
