Around two lakhs devotees thronged ijtemas, congregations of Muslims, being held in Chittagong and Sylhet districts on its first day.

In Chittagong, nearly a thousand of foreign devotees joined the Ijtema at Charia village in Hathazari upazila's  Mirzapur.

Forkan Sikder, an organiser, said they have arrangements for 3,500 foreigners.

In Sylhet, the three-day ijtema is being held at Latipur-Khidirpur field in South Surma upazila after 32 years.

In 2015, Tabligh Jamaat split the congregation into district levels to ensure better management and security for all devotes.

Several watchtowers have been installed to monitor the situation, and police and Rapid Action Battalion members also in plain clothes have already been deployed at the Ijtema.

Akheri Munajat will be held on Saturday at 11:00am.
