Star journo wins award for report on human rights

The Daily Star’s staff correspondent Rafiul Islam was awarded by Crime Reporters’ Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) today for his report on human rights.

Rafiul won the award in the human rights category for his report on “No safety in custody”, which was published on The Daily Star on September 27.

The award was presented at a programme held at Sagor-Runi auditorium of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) in the capital around 12 noon.

Railway Minister Mujibul Haque was present at the programme as the chief guest, while CRAB President Abu Saleh Akon presided over the programme. CRAB General Secretary Sarwar Alam was the anchor at the programme.

CRAB presented the awards in five categories of reports this year -- corruption, repression on women and children, human rights and investigative report on drug abuse for print and online publications, and on crime report for television.

The other awardees were -- Parvez Reza of Ekattor TV for best report on corruption, Bakul Ahmed of daily Samakal for best report on repression on women and children, SM Azad of daily Kaler Kantho for best investigative report on drug abuse, and Abu Jahed Md Salim of Maasranga Television for best TV crime report.
