Teenage girl raped in capital

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in the capital's Paltan yesterday. 

The girl, who passed SSC examination this year from a school Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the capital, got acquainted with Tamim, 24, through Facebook a few months ago.

Tamim, introducing himself as a student of a public university, used to chat with her. And he invited her to meet in the capital's Dainik Bangla area on Sunday afternoon. They met each other there, and Tamim took her to a restaurant, the victim's father quoted her daughter as saying. The youth got her unconscious mixing sedatives in her drink and raped her, alleged the father, adding that the accused dumped his unconsious daughter beside a road near TSC on the Dhaka University campus.

The girl, however, managed to call her father, who rescued and rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The father demanded arrest of the rapist and said he would lodge a case in this regard.

Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh police, said he heard about the incident and that police were collecting information about it.
