Teenage girl ‘gang raped’, five arrested in capital

Police yesterday arrested five persons including two students in a case filed for allegedly gang raping a teenage girl in the capital’s Uttarkhan area.

The arrested persons are aged between 17 and 24, Mamunur Rahman, officer-in-charge (operation) of Uttarkhan Police Station, told The Daily Star last night.

A human haulier driver took the 17-year-old girl to an under construction building of Helal Market in the area around 8:30pm on Wednesday, he said.

Later, the driver and four others raped her till 2:30am yesterday and left the scene, said the OC.

The girl told police patrolling the area about the incident, said Mamunur. Then, police called her mother who filed the case accusing the five persons, he added.

Later, the girl was sent to the one stop crisis centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
