Teachers to get MPO online

The government is going to make distribution of Monthly Pay Order (MPO) online of 26,000 educational institutions including secondary level schools, colleges, madrasas and technical institutes to change the traditional cumbersome process, top officials said.

They said the education ministry took the decision in line with its education policy 2010 that emphasised the decentralisation of education management.

The online distribution of MPO will be held among nine regions-Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chittagong, Comilla, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Barisal and Khulna to ensure transparency and accountability, Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan said.

He said a circular in this regard will be issued soon.

The entire spectrum of online activities will be done in a well-thought-out management plan to remove the bottlenecks and bring transparency, Khan said, adding each educational institution must have a website with a provision to receive online applications.

The existing process to receive hard copy application will also remain but for a particular period and gradually all functions of MPO distribution will be automated, the education secretary said.

Sources said the authorities have distributed responsibility of the field level education officers and teachers of the educational institutions concerned to run smoothly the online MPO distribution process.

The authorities have also taken decision to host the data and information of online MPO distribution in the Data Center of Bangladesh Computer Council.
