Sylhet road crash kills five

Three die elsewhere

Eight people, including five factory workers, were killed and two others injured in road accidents in three districts yesterday.

In Habiganj, five people were killed and two others injured critically as a truck collided head-on with a microbus carrying them in Ulukandi of Chunarughat upazila. The deceased were Goutom Kumar, 30, of Jhalakathi, Doarish Begum, 27, of Chapainawabganj, Baijid Alam, 28, of Joypurhat, Sujit Kumar Roy, 34, of Narail Sadar and microbus driver Al-Amin, 28, of Kishoreganj. All except Al-Amin worked at Bhairab Future RF factory, said police.

In Chittagong, a school teacher was killed as a vehicle hit him on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Faujdarhat of Sitakunda upazila.

The deceased was identified as Hasan Mohiuddin Jony, 32, of Uttar Salimpur area in Sitakunda. He was a teacher of Kalusha (R) Girl's High School in the upazila.

The accident occurred while he was crossing the highway, said Saleh Ahmed Pathan, officer-in-charge of Baro Awlia Highway Police Station.

In Chittagong city, a worker of the Chittagong City Corporation was killed as a bus hit him while he was crossing the road in Bayezid Tara Gate area.

The deceased Raton Kumar Chowdhury, 60, used to work at the Engineering Department of CCC.

He was doing painting works of road in the area, said CCC sources.

In Tangail, a truck driver Abul Hossain of Dinajpur was killed as another truck hit his vehicle from behind on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Shibpur area in Sadar upazila.
