Incessant rain continued to mount public sufferings today after an hour’s morning rain yesterday saw Dhaka in anguish for rest of the day.

On the bright side, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said there are chances of sighting the sun this afternoon – but near the end of the day.

The sky drizzled throughout last night before taking a 30-minute break and resuming again from around 7:30am this morning.

The met office recorded 26 milimetres of rain in three hours from 6:00am to 9:00am today and forecasted showers at most places of Dhaka and rest of the country.

A met official told The Daily Star that there are chances of the rain fading out later today. This bout of rain, caused by “strong monsoon”, will fade in the coming three days.

WATER UP & DOWN; TRAFFIC LEFT & RIGHT

Several parts of the capital including Dhanmondi 27, Mirpur Road, Banani, Shukrabad, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Rayerbazar, Jhigatola and Bashundhara were under knee deep under.

Office goers suffered immensely in their commutes due to water logging coupled with Dhaka's fragile traffic management today.

Traffic in Banani, Mohakhali, Khilkhet, Bijoy Sarani and many other places in the city were in a mess. A commuter, Anindya Ayan, said it took him four hours to reach Farmgate from Bashundhara.

Yesterday, most of Dhaka was inundated in an hour’s spell of rain and the resulting havoc exposed the capital city’s poor drainage system and lax management in traffic.
