Lawmen have drawn up an elaborate foolproof security system in and around Central Shaheed Minar for the observance of International Mother Language Day on February 21.

“There are no active threats. We have taken highest security measures to ensure peaceful observance of Amar Ekushey,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah said.

Speaking at Central Shaheed Minar premises, Dhaka, today, he said the entire area would be under the supervision of CCTV and there will be four layers of security in place.

The visitors will have to cross multiple archways and checkpoints to enter the premises.

RESTRICTION IN DHAKA UNIVERSITY FROM 6PM

Police will restrict movement inside Dhaka University campus from 6:00pm onwards, February 20, ahead of the Amar Ekushey. Entry points to the campus will be sealed for outsiders.

Other than DU students, teachers and staff members no other vehicles or persons would be able to enter the campus area from 6:00pm onwards, police commissioner said. Only vehicles with some DU stickers will be allowed to enter, he said.

VVIP visitors will enter Central Shaheed Minar premises using the Matsya Bhaban - Doyel Chattar - Gymnesium - Romana Chattar route to pay homage to the language martyrs.

Mass people will have to use Palashi intersection -Jagannath Hall route.

Palashi intersection will be reserved for the VVIP visitors to pay homage barricaded till 12:30pm. After that mass people will be able to enter.

No passenger vehicles will be allowed on the Science Laboratory-Nilkhet, Fulbaria crossing-Chankharpool, and Kataban-Nilkhet, routes since 5:00am on February 21 for Probhat Feri.
