Stay alert so perpetrators can't come to power

PM urges all at BCL reception accorded to her

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday called upon the country people to stay alert so that war criminals and perpetrators of crimes like burning people to death, laundering money and embezzling orphans' funds can never come to power.

Hasina, the Awami League president, asserted that her party will not allow anybody to play ducks and drakes with the people's fate.

She was addressing a reception accorded to her on her reelection as the AL chief, hosted by Bangladesh Chhatra League at her Gono Bhaban residence, where BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag and General Secretary SM Zakir Hossain spoke.

The premier said the BNP chief's sons have laundered money abroad, which has been proved in the US and Singaporean courts.

Referring to the violence unleashed by the BNP-Jamaat before and after the last general elections as well as in 2015, Hasina said they have killed countless people by burning.

The AL chief thanked the leaders and activists of her party and associate bodies, including BCL, for resisting the movement.

She also urged the BCL leaders not to lead a luxurious life.

Asking them to be more attentive to study, Hasina said there is no need to elaborate what could be the consequences if an illiterate person comes to power.

On militancy, Hasina said, “You will have to be vigilant so that boys and girls don't go to the wrong path.”
