State Minister Shahriar takes responsibility of Shamima's education

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam has taken the responsibility of educational expenses of Shamima Khatun.

Though Shamima of Tala upazila in Satkhira passed this year's Rajshahi Medical College admission test, she said she was unable to bear the educational expenses due to a financial hardship.

Following media reports, Shahriar, also a member of parliament from Rajshahi 6 (Bagha-Charghat) constituency, contacted Shamima and assured her of bearing her responsibility.

Contacted, Shahriar Alam, who is in Istanbul of Turkey, attending the D-8 Summit, told The Daily Star over the phone yesterday that he will bear Shamima's educational expenses. “She can even visit my house in the city where my parents live,” he said.

He said he extended his support to Shamima hoping that other politicians and affluent people would also come forward to help the meritorious students.

He said last year he extended his support to Raihanul Bari of Lalmonirhat who is now studying at Sir Salimullah Medical College in Dhaka.
