Star reporter among 6 given Tobacco Control Journalism Award

The Daily Star’s Senior Reporter Porimol Palma and five other journalists were presented with “Tobacco Control Journalism Award 2017” today for their anti-tobacco reporting.

Progotir Jonno Gyan (Progga) and Anti-tobacco Media Alliance (ATMA) jointly gave the award in four categories titled -- local newspaper, print/online newspaper (Bangla), print/online newspaper (English), and electronic media.

The Daily Star’s Senior Reporter Porimol Palma received the award for the best report in print/online newspaper (English) category.

Golam Mortuza Jewel (Dainik Kirtonkhola), Hamid-uz-Zaman Mamum (the Daily Jugantar), Md Shafikul Islam (Bangla Tribune) and Sushanta Sinha (Jamuna Television) got the award in the other three categories.

Meanwhile, Sadik Evan (bdnews24.com) was awarded on Children’ Journalism category on special recommendation of the jury board.

Law Minister Anisul Huq handed over a crest, a certificate and a cheque for Tk 50,000 to each of the awardees at a function in the capital's Cirdap auditorium.

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Executive Director of Progga ABM Zubair, Convener of Anti-tobacco Media Alliance (ATMA) Mortuza Haider Liton, were among, the others present at the programme.
