A group of stalkers beat up a youth who stood up to teasing in Dhaka’s Mirpur area today.

In grave condition, Ali Imam Rakib, 20, was undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) in the capital.

His mother Sharmin Afroz told The Daily Star that he was returning home with his cousin around 1:30pm when the stalkers used indecent words and made offensive advance towards the girl.

As Rakib stood up to protest, they beat him up, she said. When last contacted, Sharmin said doctors at the hospital detected two fractures on the right leg of Rakib.

Officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, Nazrul Islam said police primarily identified a youth named Fahim for the incident and are trying to arrest him.
